We kicked off our first holiday season in Iowa with a family visit to Rose Farm. Located on a gravel country road in Norwalk, Iowa, just South of Des Moines, Rose Farm quickly became one of my happy places. And I have been photographing my kids (and other families) there ever since.

It was December of 2020 when I first visited the brand new Hotel Millwright in Amana - and I have returned since. I love the uniqueness and thoughtful designs of boutique hotels and was intrigued that Hotel Millwright was on the site of Iowa's only remaining textile mill. (Spoiler alert - it did NOT disappoint!)

Maybe it's because I'm a mother myself, and maybe it's because my kids are growing up so fast, but motherhood has always been one of my favorite things to photograph. And the opportunity to document the bond between a fellow photographer and her children at an enchanting conservatory in the woods was something I wasn't going to pass up.

In the summer of 2020, after living in the Los Angeles for nearly 20 years, we moved our family to Des Moines, Iowa. We had heard about the development of the Lauridsen Skatepark and we were beyond excited that we would have the country’s largest skatepark in our new city. Little did we know just how exciting it would be, especially for our daughter.

Winter weather is definitely no excuse to skip maternity photos. In fact, the cold temps outside make nesting inside your warm home all that more cozy. So why not have maternity photos in the place that you'll bring Baby home to anyway?
